Default Stepping back

It's just the first step, but I'm looking to buy a few shovels over the next 9 years, 4 to be exact. One fer each of my three youngest (Kicker only and low compresion), and one for me. Mine will be kick only also.

I will be looking forward to feedback from the experienced.

The first question is.......What years to look for?

I like the idea of low compresion small ci for the kids, and for me, I'm thinking the kids would love to see dear old dad kick himself to death on a 98".

I'm partial to the generator cased pans & shovels. (pre 1970)

Kickers were optional on '69s and later.

Generators are quick and cheap to replace without taking major parts off.

Set up properly they will crank right up after first giving a priming kick with the key off.

Options are out there since most other people want electric start leak proof models.

Generally speaking it's best to avoid pre '79 shovels. After then until '84 they were 80" and cast a lot better. Just providing some food for thought.

I had a 79 1/2 superglide, it was an 80" that came out half way through the year in 1979

At this point I can only speak from the info I have been told or read.

My thoughts for the kids bikes is low compression at about 7.2:1. I had read that dual plugs or much lower compression than stock was the fix for the 74" models.
I appreciate any and all feed back on this topic, because the first shovel should be in the garage this late winter while all prices are down.
