Default Queen Gregoire Ready to Strike

[i]Just in case you missed this article in "Headlines" I thought I' post it here for those of us who may have to deal with our future police state.[i]

This forum will not allow me to use the words I would choose to express my opinion of this proposal.

OLYMPIA
Gov. Chris Gregoire, backed by law enforcement, is proposing sobriety checkpoints as part of the state's continuing clampdown on drunken driving.

But the American Civil Liberties Union said the plan would violate the state's strong constitutional privacy protections against "suspicionless" searches. Spokesman Doug Honig says the state Supreme Court threw out Seattle's checkpoints near 20 years ago.

The governor's plan will be sponsored by the House Judiciary Committee chairwoman, Rep. Pat Lantz, D-Gig Harbor, an attorney. The proposal would require law enforcement to get a warrant for a specific location and time, targeting areas that are known for frequent alcohol and drug-related collisions.

I was living in the Puget Sound area when Seattle set up those check-points. Hopefully this time around the states efforts to make a mockery of individual's fundamental human rights by enacting the same sort of draconian practices will get yanked off the streets (assuming it makes it that far) just as fast.

I’m all for keeping drunk drivers off the streets, but this sort of knee jerk, “shotgun” approach is not the way to go about it.

When I'm too drunk to drive,I get a cab. But, if I am goin to mom's house for dinner and a couple glasses of wine,I don't want to be worried the whole time I might hit a checkpoint on the way home. You know if they smell anything on your breath they fuckers will run you in. This is govt. run-amok and needs to be nipped in the bud ....AGAIN. The Queen says "it's a new day" refering to the previous unconstitutional ruling of this practice 20 years ago. Well, I got her "new day" HANGIN !!
