A BIKER yesterday admitted hitting the fastest speed ever recorded on a Scottish road - 106mph ABOVE the limit.
Hairdresser Neil Purves, who was clocked at 166mph on his Suzuki GSX-R1000, was given an immediate ban after entering his guilty plea to a charge of dangerous driving.
Purves, 27, was caught by traffic cops alerted by the noise from the bike's engine as he rode through the Borders on May 13, Peebles Sheriff Court was told.
Morag McLintock, prosecuting, said: "We believe this is the highest speed the police have ever recorded in Scotland.
"A speed check was taking place when officers were alerted by a high-pitched whine from the engine."
