DAVID STEEL was furious to be hit with a £2400 repair bill when the engine on his Harley-Davidson packed in.
The bike was not long out of warranty and, although it had only done 8400 miles, Harley refused to fix it. He called me in after six months trying to reason with the firm but getting nowhere. David, 46, said: "The bike is lying at the dealership. It hasn't turned a wheel since March." The firefighter paid £7800 for the second-hand bike, a Dyna Street Bob, in July 2007. That sucks, but out of warranty is out of warranty. This crap happens all the time. I thought this had happened to me just this last month, but my wife is far smarter than me and reminded me that the maintenance package i bought at the time of my RK purchase included and extra year on my warranty. Bike is in the shop right now - $50 deductible and misc parts only.
