For future reference Trad, that sludge will build up over time if you do not follow the correct oil change procedures. Change the oil before winter storage. Warm up the engine before draining oil. If you don't do this sludge will build up over time, it settles in the bottom of the oil tank and in the crankcase. Hope this helps in the future.

It was just pure stupidity on my part - an engine with 75-80 K on it is gonna have some crap in the bottom. But I was in such a hurry to head out and meet my friends up in Hico I didn't do a proper shake down after starting up the engine for the first time in over a year. I spend my whole life working to get a handle on my ADD but it never seems to take at the most important times...lol

Anyway - I'm looking for the bargain of the century for Buell parts to rebuild the engine - heads, cams, pistons, cylenders, etc but until my biz picks up I'm pretty much SOL unless some guy doesn't know what he has and gives em away for a song.

Anyone want to give away that stupid 2002 Buell Thunderstorm engine just sitting around taking up space???? lol
