A few years ago, Matt Hines walked away from a hugely successful riding career to keep the Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team on track. Judging by the team's continued success behind his blossoming abilities as a crew chief, it appears he made the right call.
Hines collected 30 wins and became the first rider in NHRA history to claim the world title three years in a row in the late 1990s. But less than five years later, he relinquished his riding duties to help the team survive during a challenging 2003 season, taking on the role of crew chief.
