Here a little better picture with the type of common connector I'm talking about.

You just push the button and it reads either low or ready.

They seem to run between 9 and $11 US. I won mine at a bike rally.

Does it tell you if the bike quit charging while you are riding down the road?

On this analyzer when you push the button you get three readings.

Green: indicates the battery is fully charged.
Red: indicates battery needs a charge.
Nothing: indicates the voltage is below 3.0 VDC

So yes if you had it mounted where you could see it and push the button you could tell.

old-evo, it sounds like that unit is just telling you the condition of the battery. Which is better than nothing.

The one Fubar posted, however lets you know if your charging system is working or not. That is more important to me as if the charging system does not work the battery surely will go dead....

Well if we are both stuck on the side of the road together cause your light came on and mine went out it can only be 1 of 5 things. Bad stator, bad regulator, bad battery, bad circuit breaker, or a wire that is shorted ie bad ground. If you feel your 35 dollar LCD tells you more than my 9 dollar one. Go for it.

I just brought this up cause some folks here thought that 35 bucks for a LCD with a circuit board attached was a lot of money.

Hell, I would whip out my digital meter to try and solve any of the above problems anyways.

I think you mkight be missing the point of the product Evo...your charging systen can stop working for a variety of reasons. YOu have no way of knowing until the battery's dead, because it is no longer charging.

This is key:
So if I'm riding down the road and this light goes on, it means I only have what's left of the battery before it goes caput, because it is no longer getting charged. Which means get somehwere to fix it fast.

With your product you would be stranded with no advance knowledge of a problem

and as far as that 35 dollars being to much...I think he needs to loosen his purse strings cause even this poor sonofa bitch can afford that, and my time is worth more 35 bucks trying to figure out a homemade version.

And on every bike I have ever owned I have known long before my battery is dead just by the feel of the bike. The bike will get sluglish, and hesitate. I don't need a LCD to tell me that my electrical is going bad.

And with that LCD you could very well have a bad battery but be thinkin and looking at your stator or regulator cause your LCD tells you so. All that LCD is telling you is the voltage is low. period.

Here is a quote from their FAQ page:

Q. What does it mean if the light comes on?

A. It means that the voltage detected by ChargeWatch is less than what is needed to effectively charge your battery. If the light comes on at normal riding speeds, then it is highly likely that your charging system is failing, or you have an electrical problem causing a heavy voltage draw that will drain your battery.

I ran a whole summer on a bad stator with no lights on my Shovel and this is why I re-wired my starter switch on my Evo so that I can start my bike with no lights so I can run on very low voltage if need be.
