It looks like we will have to wait for the quad cores from AMD before they are going to catch up to Intel again.

Competition is good. The CPU market was stagnant until five years ago when AMD kicked it into gear with their original Athlon series.

Yeah i like my athlon, except it runs hot sometimes in my laptop.

I am scared of AMD, never had one that was as good as the Intel's... Always seemed to have an issue somewhere.. But, I am glad they are out there to keep Intel working hard... :wink:

From 2002 through 2005 you couldn't buy a better/faster CPU than an AMD. They really pushed the envelope through that period and if it wasn't for them lighting a fire under Intel we wouldn't be at the performance levels we are seeing right now.

AMD is also largely responsible for adding 64 bit instructions to the X86 base, which Intel fought for years, but due to market pressures they finally caved in and added the EMT64 tag to their Xeon line.
